Welcome to the Westbrook’s Elementary Library

Parents,

Below are some tips that I have found that may help your child with reading.  Please visit this site frequently to find later installments in helping your child.  As always the library is here for you.  Please let me know what I can do to be of service to you and your family.

Thanks!
Donette Griffith, Elementary Librarian

HOW DO YOU SPELL SCHOOL SUCCESS?
R-E-A-D A-L-O-U-D T-O Y-O-U-R C-H-I-L-D

Isn’t a preteen too old to be read to?

No Way!!

Reading aloud to your child is the single most important thing you can do to improve his or her attitude toward reading.  Try these strategies and you’ll find that even you are looking forward to the next chapter of the book you’re reading to your child.  What’s going to happen next? You wonder.  A love of reading – that’s what.
Can you spell s-u-c-c-e-s-s?

Choose books together.  Read aloud (every day!) stories that appeal to both you and your child.  Find books that’ll have you giggling or shivering together.  If a story makes you want to keep reading even when you’re missing something desperately intriguing on TV, it’s a winner.  If you love a book, you’ll convey that to your child.  If, on the other hand, you aren’t interested, you’ll give that away too.

Box Tops for Education

This past year, we raised $747.00 to purchase books and equipment for our school library. Please continue to collect Box Tops and turn them in to the library.
