  • Congratulations to Michelle Williams and D.J. Metz.  These outstanding students received a Duke Tip Medal for achieving high scores on the college level ACT as 7th graders.  They ranked among 1300 seventh graders state wide to meet recognition criteria.

  • Dan Weaver was asked to participate in the National Young Leaders Conference this year.   He also was accepted in the National Society of High School Scholars

  • Congratulations to National Honor Society recipients:  Stephanie Gross & Madison Wrenn

  • Brian Jennings was selected for the National Society of High School Scholars.  He also received a scholarship to study this summer with the TIP program at Duke.

  • Ashley Humphrey – 95 and above Average and Presidential Academic Fitness Award. Congratulations, Ashley, for all of your hard work! 

  • Congratulations to Isaac Sims and Austin Snow.  Their local soccer team, Coosa Storm, won the 2010 AYSA State Cup in Decatur.  They are now ranked No. 1 in Alabama in their division and will travel to Tulsa, OK, in June to compete in the Region III President’s Cup.  Way to go, guys!!

  • Congratulations to the 2009-2010 Duke Tip Scholars!  These students qualified for this program based on their 2009 SAT scores.  They will be able to sit for the ACT as 7th graders.  Forty-six percent of the seventh grade class qualified!  Congratulations!!

  • Katie Kilpatrick attended a National Leadership Conference in Washington D.C. during the month of March.

  • Four of our WCS sophomores, Mary Elizabeth Dial, Torey Moore, Jake O’Leary and Christina Thomson attended the National Young Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C. during the week of Spring break.

  • Mrs. Streip was selected as “Best Sponsor” at the recent JUNA (Junior United Nations Assembly) competition. She was selected from over 40 sponsors.

  • Stephanie Gross has been offered the A. Earl Potts Scholarship and the Founder’s Scholarship from Samford University.

  • Natalie Simpkins has been offered an academic scholarship to UAB.

  • Middle School Spelling Bee Winner – Ashley Humphrey

  • Baker Smidt won the Coosa Valley Electric Co-operatives Essay Contest – an expense paid trip to Washington D.C.

  • Drew Christenberry - Academic Merit Scholarship, Belmont University Capstone Scholar Scholarship, The University of Alabama Academic Service Scholarship, Middle Tennessee State University Faculty Scholars Scholarship, Jacksonville State University Scholarship, Bryant/Jordan Scholar Athlete Scholarship, School Representative and Class 2A, Area 12 Winner Wendy's High School Heisman School Finalist

  • Blake Hughes - the REGION winner for the Bryant/Jordan Achievement Award and will receive a scholarship to a school of his choice for this award.

  • Caitlin Williams – Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship, Auburn University: Spirit of Auburn Founders Scholarship and Jacksonville State University: Faculty Scholarship, Samford Universitiy Brock School of Business Academic Scholarship

  • Lance Hughes – HOBY Award – Outstanding Sophomore Student
